The world has braced themselves for the great Chipotle closure of 2016.
On Monday, Feb. 8, the burrito juggernaut has decided to shutter its doors throughout the entire lunch rush in order to hold a company-wide meeting about the recent E. coli crisis and their new safety plans.
The real question is will this truly make a difference. Starbucks has done something similar in the past.
For a few hours today people grabbing lunch will not have Chipotle as an option, and it looks like their competition is taking full advantage of the situation.
On the Border, freshii and Moe’s Southwest Grill have all decided to do a bit of trolling today and spiced up the competition.

Around 50,000 Chipotle employees are expected to attend the meeting in Denver today, while thousands of other employees will head to conference rooms and movie theaters to watch a broadcast.
For those willing to wait, all of the chain’s restaurants will reopen at 3 p.m. local time. But if customers haven’t tried one of the other restaurants above, now might be a time to venture out.
Or, maybe just wait and celebrate the reopening of Chipotle and have it for dinner tonight.
